The practice consists of a sequence of postures and focused breathing techniques, designed to intensify internal heat and detoxify and cleanse the body of all impurities.

4:00pm
Dr. Melissa West
   Hatha
As a yoga instructor I offer a unique approach to Hatha yoga inspired by the teachings Vanda Scaravelli and developed in Toronto by Esther Myers that is both accessible and challenging. My teaching highlights the profound connection between breath, gravity, and spinal mobility. The core premise of my teaching is that because we are always breathing, and gravity is always acting on the body, we can harness and utilize these powerful tools in order to enliven yoga postures. In this way I teach yoga in a safe manner that is constantly unraveling tension and ultimately freeing the body into a state of ease. My approach to teaching promotes relaxation in the muscles, leading to a spacious mobility in the joints of the body; ultimately leading to enhanced energy and vitality for practitioners of any age.

Melissa West is a freelance yoga and pilates instructor, Radio Host and Lifestyle coach, who helps people to surrender to peace in their lives by connecting to the vital energy within their body through breath, cultivating optimal functional movement by harnessing the power of gravity and increase overall mobility by creating more suppleness in the spine.

The purpose of Global Mala is to create a yoga as peace in action, to unify consciousness on the day that the United Nations has named International Peace Day. During this practice Melissa will begin by helping you to recall the peace from deep within your authentic self, heart, and soul, a peace that will expand to create unity in the world. Yoga postures to gently open the space of the physical heart center will create compassion within and an expansiveness to bring loving energy into the world.

Kirtan
The Traveling Satsang

The Ashtanga Yoga Fellowship has been leading satsangs for 34 years. For the past few years we have taken on a new format that has been very successful.

We have now become the “Traveling Satsang” and are traveling around to various yoga studios and spaces where people would like us to come and share the good vibes and sacred space. Satsang is a word meaning gathering of like-minded people or association of truth seekers. Our satsang format is organic and changes depending on who is present. Generally we chant ancient ‘kirtan’ - chants/mantras with harmonium, guitars and drum accompaniment, and inspirational readings, and a short meditation.

The Traveling Satsang leads in the traditional format as done in India. You do not need to be a singer to enjoy the power of chanting.
